Causes of Periodontal Disease

At New Haven Dental Center, we understand the importance of preventing periodontal disease. Periodontal, or gum, disease is a serious condition that can cause tooth loss and other oral health complications if left untreated.

The main cause of periodontal disease is bacteria that build up in the mouth and form plaque. Plaque is a sticky film that builds up along the gum line and can harden into tartar if not removed. Poor oral hygiene habits, such as not brushing and flossing regularly, can lead to plaque buildup, which can cause gingivitis. If left untreated, gingivitis can progress to periodontitis, an advanced form of gum disease.

Other factors, such as smoking, diabetes, and certain medications can increase your risk of developing periodontal disease. At New Haven Dental Center, our experienced dentist, Dr. Blake Weil, can help diagnose and treat periodontal disease. We offer a variety of treatments, from scaling and root planing to laser gum surgery, to help restore your oral health. Contact us today to learn more about how we can help you.

Risks of Untreated Periodontal Disease

Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is a serious dental condition that can lead to tooth loss and other health complications if left untreated. It is caused by bacteria that form plaque and tartar on teeth, resulting in inflammation of the gums and eventual destruction of the bone and tissue that supports the teeth.

Dr. Blake Weil, a dentist specializing in periodontal care, can help diagnose and treat gum disease. Treatment may include deep cleaning, antibiotics, and in some cases, surgery to restore the lost bone and tissue. By treating the disease early, the risk of tooth loss and other serious complications can be reduced.

Staff are friendly and professional, I had a 4 hour procedure today and Kimi, who did a lot of the work and Dr Weil explained what was going on and what was going to happen all throughout the procedures. Also asked me occasionally if I was doing ok. So far I am happy with my choice coming here for my dental needs. June 2024. Back for a routine cleaning. Hygienist was friendly and good at her job. This was one of the better cleaning experiences that I have had.
