Sealants create a protective barrier that keeps food and bacteria out of the deep grooves of your molars - where cavities often start.
The application takes just minutes and is completely painless - no needles, no drilling. With proper care, sealants can last up to 5 years.
While ideal for children and teens, adults with healthy molars can also benefit from the added layer of protection.
Sealants are one of the simplest and most cost-effective ways to prevent tooth decay and avoid future dental treatments.
Dental sealants are a quick, painless way to protect your teeth from cavities – especially the hard-to-clean grooves in your back teeth. This thin protective layer keeps out bacteria and food particles, making it an ideal option for kids and teens, but adults can benefit too!
Sealants act like a shield for your teeth, reducing the risk of decay and helping you avoid future dental work. They’re safe, non-invasive, and can last for years with proper care. At New Haven Dental Center, we believe prevention is the best medicine – and sealants are one of the easiest ways to stay ahead of cavities.
Sealants are most often recommended for children once their permanent molars come in—usually around age 6 or 12. But they’re not just for kids! Adults with healthy, cavity-free molars can also benefit from this extra layer of protection.
The process is simple: A thin layer of sealant is painted onto the chewing surfaces of the molars to create a protective barrier against bacteria and food particles. This layer is then hardened by a special light, forming an invisible shield.
That’s it – no drills, no discomfort. Just a few minutes of your time for up to 5 years of protection.
Once applied, sealants require no special care – just keep up with brushing, flossing, and regular checkups. During your visits, Dr. Blake Weil or our hygiene team will check your sealants to make sure they’re holding strong and reapply if needed.
